Livestock Judging

4-H & FFA LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

Saturday- February 4, 2012

8:00 - 8:30 Registration

9:00 Contest Begins

 

1. A team consists of no less than three members and no more than four.

2. Teams will be divided into junior and senior divisions. Juniors being 13 years and under, and seniors 14 years and older.

3. Members must be bona fide 4-H and FFA members of good standing.

4. The following seven classes will be judged: One class of slaughter lambs, one class of breeding sheep, two classes of slaughter steers, one class of          breeding beef cattle, one class of slaughter barrows, one class of breeding gilts.

5. Each class will have four animals.

6. Animals within a swine class will be designated by numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and all other classes will be judged left to right.

7. Contestants will be allowed 10 minutes to judge each class, 2 minutes to view, 6 minutes to judge, and 2 minutes to view.

8. Contestants will be notified one minute before time is up. When final time is called, the contestants will hand their scantron sheets to the group leaders.

9. Each group of contestants will change to another class as directed by the group leader.

10. While the contest is in progress, there will be no talking between contestants and anyone else.

11. A contestant violating any of the rules will cause himself and the team of which he is a member to be disqualified for all awards.

12. Scores will be based on placing only.

13. The top three junior and senior teams will receive an award.

14. The top junior and senior individuals and second through fifth in each division will receive an award.

15. Independents may judge in order to compete for awards.

16. Each entry form must be signed by an Agriculture Science Teacher or County Extension Agent.

17. An Award will be given to the high point junior and high point senior individual from Kleberg-Kenedy
